Adega Deu La Deu Alvarinho Vinho Verde 2010, DOC Menção De Melgaço, Portugal

This wine is made with 100% Alvarinho grapes from Vinho Verde sub-region of Menção De Melgaço located on the northern border with Spain. Alvarinho grapes from this region are richer with more sugar which means higher alcohol than Vinho Verde from Minho region of Northern Portugal. In this case the alcohol comes in at 13%.
This wine opens up with aromas of lemon, peach, apricot, floral and mineral notes. On the mouthfeel, medium bodied, very smooth and slightly sweet texture and crisp acidity. Medium length, very fresh and off-dry on the finish with ripe tropical fruit, tree fruit and mineral notes lingering. I paired this wine with grilled chicken salad and it work beautifully, it would also be lovely as a summer sipper on the patio. Score 89 points.

Purchased May 26, 2012 LCBO New Release (040642) at $19.95
